At two hours from
the Roussillon offers Barcelona
to its visitors all the aspects
and advantages of a modern
capital turned towards the
world.
Warmth, joy of living and
friendliness are the key-words to
describe our neignbours of
South-Catalonia.
Underground, busses and taxis
allow for easy moving. It is
recommended to leave your car in
one of the guarded car parks at
the entrance of the city for the
duration of your stay in order to
avoid problems such as traffic
jams, impounding and theft.
Watch out for opening hours : The
shops are open from 10 a.m. till
2 p.m.; they are closed from 2
p.m. till 5 p.m.; and they are
open again till 20-21.
The
Ramblas, with their
mosaic flooring designed by Miro,
are an ideal place for walking,
in daytime, but especially at
nighttime. Artists, painters and
vistors meet for a never-ending
spectacle which is always
renewed.

Gaudi
Gaudi,
ceramist, sculptor and
architect of genius has left
his powerful and original mark
on Barcelona.
You will
discover Gaudi first of all
during a visit at the
Güell Park, which
overlooks Barcelona. Apart
from Gaudi's house, the entire
park is a symphony of
colourful mosaics, meandering
terraces, columns and nooks.
Many hours, if not many visits
seem to impose
themselves.
The second
highlight of Gaudi's genius is
the Sagrada Familia (The Holy
Family). An unfinished edifice
which created a scandal in its
time. A marvel of
architectural daring, with its
eighteen slender towers and
its look of molten lava. As
the blueprints of the Sagrada
Familia have been burnt by the
Franquists, the work has been
taken over by Subirachs,
causing a lot of
polemics.

Gaudi built a
lot of buildings which you can
discover all along the
avenues. You cannot be
mistaken.

Many buildings
and architectural elements lie
scattered all over the city
and they may be an excellent
occasion for the amateurs to
go out for a real
treasure-hunt : fabulous grids
with dragons, exteriour
staircases, lifts, the crypt
of the church which was built
by Gaudi for the Colonia
Güell, etc...
