Temperatures rise to 30/35° in summer, and in winter they seldom fall below -3/-4°. The higher you go up into the mountains, the lower the temperatures drop. Still quite temperate in Prades and Conflent, the climate becomes right harsh in Mont Louis and Cerdagne. There are no glaciers in the department but the many ski resorts are well snow-covered in winter. The Tramontane (tramontana) is the prevailing wind. Just like the mistral in the Provence, it blows from the North-Northeast and can be attended by violent squalls. The Tramontane clears the sky and causes the drought.
